James A. Long, better known as "Al" by those who know him best, was born at Montezuma, Ohio, Sept 11, 1860. He has made his own way through life, and is, what he is, by reason of his industry, integrity and personal effort. He came to Wingate, Ind from his home in Mercer County, Ohio in March 1882, and was employed as a section hand, studying telegraphy at night until he was transferred in the telegraph and station service July 1, 1884, serving in that capacity on the Clover Leaf RR at Mellott; Marton; Bluffton; Decatur and Wingate, Ind, until he was appointed postmaster at Wingate, Jan 26, 1902. To his close personal attention to his duties as postmaster as is his custom concerning all undertakings, is due the fact that the Wingate PO in a village of less than 500 inhabitants has risen to grade of 3rd class, with a salary of $1100 a year with room rent and other allowances. His friends and neighbors who know him best, irrespective of party are back of his candidacy, with ever assurance of his ability and qualifications to fill the office to the fullest measurement of the highest standard and they say if you want to see Al Long during office hours, when he is county auditor, go to his office in the court house where you will always find him qualified and pleased to serve you, in any way concerning the affairs of the office. -- kbz

The Republicans of Coal Creek Twp present the name of J.A. Long as a candidate for auditor of Montgomery County, subject to the will of the Republican voters of the county at the coming primaries.
